Siruna open source policy

Although this is a free/open source software (F/OSS) project, giving you a lot of freedom and flexibility regarding the use of the Siruna software, this doesn’t mean you’re free to do anything you want with the product: you have to respect the Affero General Public License (AGPL).

We at the Siruna Company interpret the AGPL in the way that as soon as you develop commercial activities involving the Siruna software, you will need to purchase a commercial license. Commercial activities include: offering paid services as a web agency, providing mobile websites for paying or non-paying customers, using the Siruna software in a server farm.

If this doesn't apply to you, you still have inform your users that you’re using Siruna software and you also have to tell them where they can find the product’s source code. This should be achieved using the built-in credit enforcement that adds a 'Powered by Siruna' link to any output produced by the Siruna software. You are not allowed to remove that link in any way, unless this right is explicitly granted to you by the Siruna Company.

Additionally, if you change the software and/or the sitemaps, you should make your enhancements and bug fixes available to the community. This leads to a win-win situation: You win if you get your fixes in the official Siruna release, because you reduce upgrade-related problems. The Siruna community wins because it can benefit from your enhancements.

This is the short explanation. For the long version, see the full text of the AGPL which is also packaged with the source code.
